FIRE DETECTION

The aircraft's only smoke detector is located where?

Baggage compartment

The aft baggage smoke detector is powered by what bus? 

Left essential DC bus

For normal flight operations, what is the proper position of the smoke evacuation valve handle?

Normal

When using the baggage compartment reset switch to reset the system, how many seconds should you hold it in the reset position?

10 seconds to allow full operation of the solenoid

In flight at 35,000 feet, can you open the internal baggage compartment door if the baggage compartment is depressurized?

No

The Gulfstream G-V's fire detection and warning system is composed of the engine fire, pylon overheat, apu fire, and the passenger and tail compartment overheat detection systems. when are these systems energized? 

When the main batteries are on and will remain operable at all times when the L ess AND R ess DC buses are powered

Each engine contains two fire loops. Each loop contains five dual sensor elements. Four of these are located next to the engine within the nacelle. Where is fifth located? 

Within the engine core

The engine fire warning and detection system consists of two heat sensitive loops. what type of detectors does the pylon system use?

Three thermal switches installed next to the bleed air ducting

What type of fire and overheat warning detector does the APU use?

Helium gas filled tube

If the helium gas filled tube on the apu fire detection system loses pressure, is there anyway you can tell?

You should get an amber "APU fire det fail" CAS message

Will the APU electronic control unit automatically shut down the APU if a fire condition is sensed? 

Yes

What type of overheat detectors are used for the leer, reer, beer; forward, left aft, center aft, and right aft floors; and tail compartment? 

Thermal switches

On the ground with external AC power being used, what indications will you get when you depress the APU fire test switch?

Three chimes, master warn, fire bell, fire light on apu panel, test legend on test switch, and "APU fire det fail" CAS message.

When is the fire extinguishing systems energized?

When main batteries are turned on, remains operable when the L ess and R ess DC buses are energized. remains on during shutdown until batteries are turned off.

If you lose an essential DC bus, what will you lose in the way of fire detection for the engines? 

Only one loop per engine will be operable.

If you lose an essential DC bus, what will you lose in regards to the engine fire extinguishing system?

Only one discharge per engine is available.

If you lose the left essential DC bus, what will you lose in regards to the engine fire extinguishing system?

Only one discharge per engine and the APU discharge

The APU fire extinguishing receives its agent from which bottle?

Left or #2 bottle

Rotating a fire handle to the outboard direction will always discharge what bottle?

The right or #1 bottle, leaving #2 for the APU if needed later.

Pulling the fire handle shuts off what items?

Generator, hydraulic fluid, engine fuel
